Ramanagara

Ramanagara district is located approximately between 12º42'52.49"N latitude and 77º60'36.03"E longitude. It consists of Channapatna, Kanakapura, Magadi and Ramanagara taluks. The total geographical area is 355.9 (’000 ha) with a mean annual rainfall of 928.50 mm and mean annual temperature is above 27ºC which comes under Eastern Dry zone. The geological formation of the Ramanagara district is made up of deep red clay soils, moderately deep red clay soils, shallow red soils, moderately deep, loamy soils and deep red sandy loam soils. The major crops cultivated in Ramanagara district are finger millet, paddy, field bean, horsegram, maize, redgram, bajra and horticulture crops like fruits and vegetables with a net sown area of 167 (‘000 ha) and the cropping intensity is 106.6 per cent.


The fertility status of Ramanagara district showed that, among major nutrients, available N varied from medium to high, available P was low to medium and K ranged from low to medium in the district. In case of available sulphur, maximum area was medium followed by low and high fertility status. As per the available micronutrients, zinc was medium in 23 per cent of the area and high in 77 per cent of the total geographical area, however, other micronutrients viz., Fe, Mn and Cu are sufficient in the soils of Ramanagara district and the boron content was deficient in 48 per cent of the area
