Hassan

The total geographic area Hassan district is 681.4 (’000 ha) and is located approximately between 13º0'0''N latitude and 76º0'0''E longitude with a mean annual rainfall of 1197 mm. Agro-climatically it comes under both Central and Southern zones of Karnataka. The geological formation of the Hassan district is made up of cretaceous red loamy soils, red sandy loam soils, lateritic soils, sandy clay loam soils. The major crops cultivated in Hassan district are finger millet, potato, groundnut, maize, redgram, paddy, sunflower, bajra and horticulture crops like fruits, vegetables and plantation crops etc.


The fertility status of Hassan district showed that among major nutrients, nitrogen is medium and low while phosphorus and potassium are medium and high in the district. In case of available sulphur, maximum area is low and medium. With respect to available micronutrients, zinc is found to be deficient in 32 per cent of the area However, other micronutrients viz, iron, manganese and copper are sufficient.
